My friend Alan and I arrived at around 6:30 and decided to just sit off to the side for the opening bands (after all - I was really there just to see Type O!!). At about 10 minutes to 7, the Deadlights came on (a show starting early?!) and were actually pretty damn good! I was quite impressed. Next was Full Devil Jacket - they weren't TOO bad, but I wasn't extremely impressed. They did have this little kid on stage though, standing in the corner that was kinda dancing and grooving for their set. And about half-way to the end of their set, the singer decides to introduce the kid. He says something to the effect of "Hey, everyone - we'd like you to meet a special friend of ours. This is Tyler! He's 7 years old and this is his first concert! So, let's hear a big 'Fuck you' for Tyler!" The audience screams "Fuck you, Tyler!" And then, FDJ's singer says, "Alright Tyler - give 'em a big 'fuck you!'" So, Tyler, sort of walks out to the middle of stage, with both middle fingers extended and is screaming "Fuck you!" (He didn't have a mic, but you could get the picture...) I just thought that was kinda cool - I'd like that to be my kid someday! *LOL*
Anyway, FDJ gets off stage, and after about 20 minutes or more of waiting for them to set up Coal Chamber's stuff - the lights go down. Coal Chamber had this big white curtain up with all these nifty lights shining through it before they took the stage - it was pretty damn cool. Although, when the curtain was supposed to be dropped, one of the corners got stuck (the one in front of Rayna) and one of the roadies had to come out on stage to get it unsnagged - it took him about a minute to get the damn thing down - I thought it was kinda funny. Coal Chamber played an awesome set - I was pretty impressed!
Then, the moment I had been waiting for all night long! Al and I moved closer to the stage and stood against the rail off to the side to get a better view. The music to "A Clockwork Orange" was playing as the guys took the stage, and they ripped into a rendition of Pink Floyd's "In The Flesh" before beginning "Kill All The White People" which was met with some serious moshing. Then, Pete made some comments about only playing one more song 'cause he was nearly sure everyone had school the next day and he knew how anxious we'd all be to get to school. Then, he begins a little intro saying something to the effect of "I was going to name this song "Everyone I Love Owes Me Money," but that didn't quite pan out, so we named it "Everyone I Love Is Dead" instead. Then of course came the aforementioned song. And afterwards Pete says something about knowing he had said they were only going to play one more song, but "as you ladies know, old men always lie." So, then they played "Christian Woman" - I think. I can't remember the exact order of the set from there, really. At one point, he was introducing "Prelude To Agony" and said "Now, we're going to do a song I wrote 10 years ago when I was young and stupid. And now I'm old and stupid so we're going to do it anyway." (Or something to that effect..) They played "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend," and "Love You To Death" somewhere in there as well. At one point, they started playing the riff to Jethro Tull's "Aqualung" and then subsequently tore into "Too Late" - complete with the snow machine!! They even played a little riff from a Nirvana song, but I can't quite recall which one... They then played "World Coming Down" and it was simply phenomenal. I just stood there, floored the entire time. It sounded so much better than the album version - pumped of energy. And Kenny just lit the stage on fire with his performance. And lastly, the did an encore of "Black No. 1" which was great! Full Devil Jacket came out on stage in hockey gear to help Kenny out with backing vocals, and one of the FDJ members was trying to pull Pete's pants down or something at one point - all in all, it made for an amusing end to a great show!
Unfortunately, Al I and were unable to meet up with the band after the show though. We went out back and stood waiting across the street from the buses, but the Lewiston Police showed up and told us to leave - which REALLY pissed me off. But, as people were leaving, a bunch of them were screaming "PIG!!" which was kind of funny (at least I thought so, anyway). Overall though, it was a damn good show and one fun evening!
